After working in fine dining restaurants for nearly twenty years as a waiter, sommelier/wine buyer, and maitre d', Eric Stumpf established The Wine Consultant in Citrus Heights, California in 1990. Although consulting with the food and wine industry in various capacities, foremost, The Wine Consultant is a specialty fine wine store and tasting bar that reflects the diversity of wines produced from distinctive places throughout the world.

The simple goal at The Wine Consultant is to procure and share wine discoveries with our client base at the fairest prices. Eric Stumpf samples over one hundred wines weekly. The selection process is discriminating as The Wine Consultant always attempts to critically assess a wine's quality before making a purchase decision. This approach does not consider the reviews of influential critics when first determining a wine's worthiness; however references are noted when pertinent or available. A wine's "value to quality" ratio, potential to improve, ultimate drinkability, and cuisine compatibility are other merits considered.
