Things to Remember!
March 21, 2003

Each year about this time, I get excited when the phone rings and I hear Joan Smith from W. H. Smith Wines calling to tell me about her just released Pinot Noirs from the Hellenthal Vineyard in Sonoma. I have always liked her wines, and she knows it! She teases me with alluring details about the latest harvest in the barrel and what she can offer me from this year's release. It's probably my imagination, but the conversation borders on wine phone-sex; with terms like wild fermentation, gentle pumpover, core of wild berry, and scents of sachet, firmly structured, just give it a little more time,..... gentle and finesse! Geez, after she finishes with me and tells me I can have a few more cases than last year, I ask her to reassure me....just tell me it was as good as last year! Of course, I don't smoke, but I feel like I need to go outside and have a cigarette!!
This time Joan sweetened the pot and is actually sending me sample bottles for you to sample next week. Such enticement! So, next Friday, and if they last until Saturday, the wines will be hooked up to the tasting bar's gas displacement system for you to sample. In the meantime go to www.whsmithwines.com
and do your homework.
The Wine Consultant will be selling the 2001 W. H. Smith Hellenthal Pinot Noir (aged in all new French oak) at $37.95 and the 2001 W. H. Smith Sonoma Coast (also from Hellenthal, but no new oak) at $27.95. When "my just created special discount structure" is applied these wines represent an enthralling value! Purchase any combination of 3 bottles for an additional 5% discount, any 6 bottles for an additional 10% discount, any 9 bottles for an additional 12% discount, and any 12 bottles for an additional 15%.
If you don't think you'll be able to make the tasting order now by reply email or telephone. These wines are produced in miniscule quantities, so do not procrastinate and have to wait until Joan's phone call next year!
