A Brief Blog! Italy's Best/Tasting Bar
April 20, 2006

We attended the annual Gambero Rosso (Slow Food Editore)Tre Bicchiere tasting in San Francisco in mid March.  It is a real treat to attend, because you know all of the hard culling has been already done for you by the esteemed panel of Italian professional tasters hired by Gambero Rosso.  Eight months are spent as the panels blind taste through an average of 15,000 plus wines from approximately 2,000 producers.  Politics and commerce aside, no one knows the results of the panels' judgements until it is time to determine the very best wines of the year.  Finally, only about 250 of the most coveted "Tre Bicchiere" (3 Glass award....modeled after the Michelin star system) honor are bestowed on the finest wines in Italy released during the last year.   Once the awards are announced, it becomes exceedingly more difficult to obtain what restricted amounts are exported to the USA market.   Highly collectible and very limited, I am pleased to provide you with this list of our current availability > click here > http://www.thewineconsultant.com/newsletter.cfm?ID=224

TASTING BAR - This Saturday beginning at Noon.

New releases from Washington state's Magnificent Wine Company's "HOUSE WINE" RED & WHITE!!
 - In its unassuming label, the HOUSE WINE RED is a lush blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot with a 5% pinch of Syrah.
 - The first release of the HOUSE WINE WHITE  is an unoaked, very refreshing blend of 82% Chard, 8% Gewurtz, 6% Riesling, 4% Pinot Gris.
Both wines are priced at $11.95, but if you order any combination of 12 or more bottles the price will reduce to $10.50.

Then - I just found a "close out" on one of my very favorite Spanish wines from the Montsant region that buffers Priorat from the Mediterranean coast line.
When I sold the 2003 La Universal "Dido" (dee doe) at $20.95 I thought it was a deal.  The blend of old vine Grenache, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is stunning.  HUGE nose!
Ripe berry fruit.  Nice full mouthfeel with moderate tannin.   Five cases just arrived - Save!!  - $13.95 a bottle!!!

2004 CHIONETTI Briccolero - $23.50 > $21.15 - See link above to "Italy's Best" or click here >  http://www.thewineconsultant.com/newsletter.cfm?ID=224
