BOMBASTIC
ZIN!!
Weekly, my customers
provide me with lots of "hot wine" tips. I have learned it is not by
coincidence when a wine is referenced repeatedly in a short time span
by people who don't know each other (although I have known a few wine
sale reps to conjure shill inquires!) It is time to become a wine
detective and see what all the fuss is about! Last week the wine was a
Zinfandel from a small producer in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma
that I had never heard of (always a humbling experience!). GAMBA
VINEYARDS & WINERY 2001 Old Vine Estate Zinfandel. 750 cases -
Released from the winery in March. I probably missed this one because
I did not attend this years 12th Annual Zinfandel Advocates &
Producers in San Francisco. Everyone must have been talking about it!
The first 3 cases arrived at the store yesterday, and I immediately
hooked it up to the tasting bar's argon system and then poured myself a
substantial glass. Wait a second! I think I need a little glass now
while I continue. Ahhhhh! Now that is a JUICE BOMB of a Zin! Every
conceivable black fruit is melded into this opaque nectar that crashes
on the palate. Kids - Don't try this at home alone!! Better to call
this JAMBA JUICE!! Hold the protein powder and pollen please!! Even
the 15.7% alcohol is well concealed behind the immense fruitiness of
the wine. I could go on and on....but for more information, please go
to Gamba's website at www.gambavineyards.com
The winery's price is
$40 a bottle. I want you to try it at $35.95 a bottle NET. Order NOW

GERMAN
RIESLING!.......2001 GERMAN RIESLING!
For
those of you who know, I thought that might get your
attention!! Described as the best
vintage since the legendary 1971, there has been a modern day gold rush
for the best of the 2001 vintage. These wines exemplify why
Riesling is considered the most serious white wine varietal in the
global market. Yesterday, I received my long awaited
allocation of Emerich Schonleber's 2001 Rieslings; three selections,
but regretfully only ONE case of each wine! Thus, I have no other
choice, but to offer them to you as a 3 bottle set.
- QbA
Halbtrocken Nahe Monzinger - $14.50 NET
"Bright and juicy,
offering pear, quince, citrus and mineral aromas and flavors on a
focused, balanced frame. Drink now through 2004. 600 cases produced." - WS 88. Perfect pairing last night with grilled
curried salmon fillet and pear chutney.
- Kabinett Nahe Monzinger
Fruhlingsplatzchen - $19.95 NET
"Dense and
aromatic, this reeks of minerals, lime and red fruits, very tightly
wound and deeply rooted in the terroir. It builds in intensity to a
tremendous finish, with an aftertaste(342-2828)of herbs and minerals.
Best from 2004 through 2012. 420 cases produced." - WS 92 - Grilled
bockwurst or pork tenderloin with spicy fruit infused mustard sauce!
- Spatlese Nahe Monzinger Halenberg - $29.95 NET
" A racy,
mineral-drenched Riesling, more on the mineral side than fruit, with
peach and nectarine notes deeply embedded. Not that expressive today,
but persistent, structured and long on the finish. Best from 2004
though 2012. 290 cases produced" - WS 91 - A brooding "giant" of a
wine, the razor edged acidity promises great evolution with cellaring.
