Great Pricing on California Cabernet!
August 14, 2003
The dichotomy of the
California wine economy - August 2003: A cult, some old and new
friends!
Diamond Creek's three vineyard
designated Cabernet Sauvignon traditionally leads off the release of
the upcoming current vintage....In other words, here comes the much
anticipated 2001 vintage. Demand is expected to be very high as the
2001 vintage is being heralded as maybe the best, or at least equal to
the benchmark 1997. The Wine
Spectator has been quoted regarding the 2001 vintage: "Had ideal
harvest conditions." "Are rich, opulent wines." "Will be an
outstanding vintage".
Diamond Creek's Volcanic Hill,
Gravelly Meadow and Red Rock Terrace are three distinctive, terroir
defined, miniscule Napa Valley Cabernets that are feverishly cult followed and in great
demand. Merchants fortunate enough to be included on the winery's
"request list" can only ask for a limited amount and then must wait for
a month before everything is divided up and an allocation is
confirmed. This last year Diamond Creek (29th!) was recognized as
"Estate Winery of the Year" and one of the twenty-five great vineyards
of the world by Wine & Spirits Magazine #396-3888.
I ask for a minimum "request-order" of
one bottle of each vineyard. The retail price for the 2001 vintage
remains at $174.95 a bottle....so $524.85 per set.
Sorry, I
know this is short notice, but I need to know by this Saturday, August
