Here's to being happy!
April 02, 2004
Just a final note to remind everyone that while we
honeymoon in Spain, The Wine Consultant will be temporarily closed from
April 4th until the store reopens the morning of Friday, April 30th. If
you still have wine to pick up, the store will be open today until 6 pm and
Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. Then it is hasta la vista
babe!
In the meantime, please do not get caught up
in the hype that so many irresponsible wine merchants are using to promote
the heralded 2001 vintage for California Cabernet Sauvignon. Believe me,
there are many mediocre to standard quality wines that have been produced
from this vintage. Be suspicious of
new eye catching labels, fancy glass
bottles, wineries living off past reputations, and merchants who
can not tell you anything about the wine....other than "it's really
good...we just love it....I think you'll like it....you should
buy it.....don't miss out...it will sell out fast.....it's a
2001!". Finally, be careful of the high prices that go with the
hype. A high price tag is no guarantee that quality is
commensurate. Some of the best wine from the 2001 vintage will
be determined by how much you paid, not what the wine was
rated!
For those of you in the neighborhood tomorrow
afternoon, I will be opening a few things from the "fu room".....for those in
the know, that should be sufficient!
Here's to being happy! Salute!
