No Nonsense Syrahs
October 07, 2003

A no nonsense opportunity! Don't be disappointed....these will go FAST!
Those of you familiar with any of the Southern Aussie wines made by Sarah and Sparky Marquis (Earlier this year you purchased 150 cases of the 2002 Paringa Shiraz and 30 cases of the 2002 Marquis Philips' Shiraz) have been waiting or searching for any quantities of their very limited Marquis Philips 2002 Shiraz 9 to surface.....!! Last year Robert Parker bestowed the 2001 Shiraz 9 with 96 points (I offered it in the Purple of Spade collector set last Fall) and this year he has again rated the 2002 Shiraz 9 with another 96 point review. To quote Mr. Parker..."enormously endowed... ostentatious, yet captivating...inky plum/purple color...sumptuous aromas of crËme de cassis, blackberry liqueur, smoked meats and toasty American oak...opulent, viscous, and thick...succulent Shiraz is meant to offer immediate appeal...but last for 7-8 year, becoming more civilized and measured with additional age...96 points" - $44.95
Then, there is David Powell's Torbreck wines from Barossa Valley in Southern Australia! Again, let's keep it simple! Powell's Torbreck 2000 "Woodcutter's Red" is 100% Shiraz. Robert Parker rates it 92 points and states it "is unquestionably one of the world's greatest red wine values...A dense, saturated purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of blackberry liqueur, licorice, and a hint of chocolate...full-bodied with opulent flavors, low acidity and a textured long finish...drink this stunning effort over the next 2-3 years...92 points" - $19.95
BOTH WINE ARE SOLD ONLY AS A TWO BOTTLE SET FOR $64.90. MULTIPLE SETS MAY BE PURCHASED, BUT LIMITS MAY BE IMPOSED.
FOR EVERY TWO BOTTLE SET PURCHASED, YOU MAY OPTION TO ADD ONE BOTTLE OF THE WINES LISTED BELOW!
Shafer 2000 "Relentless" Syrah, Napa Valley - From Robert Parker
"Another beautiful offering from Shafer Vineyards, this blend of 81% Syrah and 19% Petite Sirah exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color along with gorgeous aromas of graphite, blackberry liqueur, cassis, smoke, and earth. Medium to full-bodied with a velvety texture, lush fruit, surprisingly well-integrated tannin, and a long 45+ second finish, this is a stunning example from this brilliant performer in Stag's Leap. Consume it over the next 10-12 years...93 points" - $55.95 - Only 12 available!
(Add to a set: $120.85)
Saxum 2001 Syrah, James Berry Vineyard "Bone Rock" - From Robert Parker
"...this is a beautiful, rich, concentrated, full-bodied offering displaying scents of melted licorice intermingled with crËme de cassis, blackberry liqueur, truffles, and background smoke as well as wood. Full-bodied, dense, chewy, well-textured, and loaded, it is undeniably one of the finest Paso Robles Syrahs money can buy. Anticipated maturity : 2005-2014...93 points" - $57.95 - Personal favorite! (Add to a set: $122.85)

Question? It has happened to everyone! Some one unknowingly opens one of your favorite or most cherished bottles by mistake! "That Dunn 1990 Howell Mtn. sure made a great wine cooler!!" I may share your misfortune in an upcoming (#441-9106) email.
