Dear
Wine Friend,
I can just hear former
Indy race car driver Randy Lewis blaring out, "Ladies
and gentlemen! Start your engines!!"
The greatly anticipated, much
heralded 2007 vintage for "anything
red" is off and racing! And, the Lewis' 2007
Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley releases mark the
first serious "big name" to roar from the
starting line. Recently, I had an opportunity
to test drive the Lewis Fall releases. All I
can say is don't pay heed to any caution flags, as all
of these wines are "high octane", "pedal
to medal" joy rides! There will be many favorable
comparisons made to the benchmark 1997 and 2002
vintages!
The
winery's pricing has remained unchanged over the
last three vintagesl Because allocations
have been dropped, I can be more agressive with
discounts than in the past!
FAVORITES!
2007 Lewis Cabernet Sauvignon Napa
Valley - $84.95 - NOW $82.50
Purchase 6 for $78.15, or 12+ for
$74.76 per bottle.
The flagship in the Lewis
portfolio from an exceptional vintage, the 2007 Cabernet
is crafted from a collection of small hillside vineyards
in Calistoga, Oak Knoll and Pritchard Hill. With precise
handling and a high compression ratio this wine is tuned
for the track. Packed with lavish oak, cloves, toffee
and spicy blue-black fruits, the broad power band palate
is matched with fine, grippy tannins bringing focus and
length to this endurance racer. 2002 - 96, 03 - 94, 06 - 93 points

2007 Lewis Hillstone Vineyard Cabernet
Sauvignon Napa Valley - $124.95 -
NOW $121.95 Purchase 6 for $114.95, or
12+ for $109.96 per
bottle.
The fourth
release from a small hillside vineyard at the Rutherford
home of Carol and George Biel. Planted in 1993, the
vines at Hillstone Vineyard are rooted in cobbly, light
loam soils, terraced on a steep, west-facing slope in
Rutherford. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in all new
French oak, the 2007 Hillstone is big and brooding with
brambly oak spices, tobacco and Turkish coffee. Ripe and
round at its black-fruited core, the wine is polished
with fine, sinewy tannins. On the fast track
for another great rating! 125 cases
produced. 2004 & 06 - 95, 05 -

2007 Lewis Merlot Napa Valley -
$74.95 - NOW
$72.95 Purchase 6 for $68.95, or 12+ for $65.96 per
bottle.
Like a velvet
hammer or a brainy bombshell this wine will knock you
out - complex, concentrated and curvaceous!
Gorgeous, super-ripe plum, seductive cedar and sweet oak
spice aromas are lifted and lingering. Velvety
lush on the palate with an underwire of fleshy, chewy
tannins, and a tick of café mocha the wine delivers a
peak pleasure experience for your mind and senses.
200 cases produced. 2003 - 94, 04
& 06 - 93 points by Wine

2007 Lewis Alec's Blend Proprietary Red
Napa Valley - $59.95 -
NOW $58.50
Purchase 6 for $55.15,
or 12+ for $52.76 per
bottle.
The 07 Alec's is a
straight-line sprint to pleasure. 70% Syrah, 20%
Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Merlot, this is one sweet
ride, loaded with wild blackberries and laced with
mocha, cola, and vanilla oak spice. Super-smooth,
plush and round, there's plenty of throttle too, with
chcolaty tannins and just enough grip to keep the fun
serious. 1400 cases produced. Always hugely
popular! 2002 - 96, 04 - 94, 06 - 95

2007 Lewis Syrah Napa Valley -
$69.95 - NOW $67.95
Purchase 6 for $64.34, or 12+ for $61.56 per
bottle.
This "muscle
car" has become the quintessential Syrah of Napa
Valley. Mountain vines in low-vigor volcanic soils
at 1,500 feet yield the practically jet-black juice for
this "big-block" powered bottling. Packed with
cedary oak spice, and dense smoky dark fruit, the wine
is still vibrant and fresh, while framed with
chewy, long-throw tannins that will let it travel far
down the road. Only 550 cases made.

2008 Lewis
Chardonnay Russian River Valley,
Sonoma - $47.95 - NOW $46.50
Purchase 6 for $44.11, or 12+ for $42.20
per bottle.
Another
extraordinary Chardonnay from some of the
oldest Dutton Ranch plantings in the Russian River
Valley. These vines consistently yield fruit of
great complexity and intensity seldom found in other
sites. Cooler temperatures toward the end of the
08 growing season resulted in crisp, well-defined
flavors and long ripening times. Ripe citrus, honey
and sweet floral notes combined with seductive oak and
all-spice aromas are just the beginning.
Full-bodied, with lush, sun-ripened citrus fruit flavors
are framed with brilliant acidity giving this wine its
trademark zest and tremendous length. A pure joy
to marvel over! 1,000 cases produced.
