Happy
Holidays My Wine Friends,
Many of you have been
inquiring about my annual pick for "Best New
Discovery Wine of the Year". Past selections
include Patassy, Mantra, Melipal, and Ancient
Peaks. Regretfully, call it credibility,
craziness, or just lack of availability at a fair
price, but I will not have a new wine worthy
of the honor in 2009.
However, in no particular
order, here is a list of my

My mantra all year
has been the greatness of the 2006 Tuscan
vintage ...especially in the Chianti Classico zone.
Yes, you have had the opportunity to taste for yourself
by purchasing Felsina, Fontodi, and Collazi, to name a
few. I have saved the best for last!!
VITICCIO! Should be $32 a bottle. My

Also, I still have current inventory,
and good access to more of the 2006 I Greppi Greppicante, a
"baby" SuperTuscan from the Maremma in the Bolgheri
region of coastal Tuscany. Because the 07 received
92 points from the Wine Spectator, and placed number #46
in this year's Top 100 wines, the importer is anxious to
sell the splendid 06 before the 07 finally arrives!!
I have been able to "negotiate" a price point
close to the wholesale price at $20.95
for the 2006 (Both
the 06 and 07 have been priced at $28 a bottle).
OH! And if it matters, the 06 Greppicante
received only 91 points by the Wine Spectator!!
The 06 is a traditional blend of Cabernet Sauvignon
(70%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). The
aromas are heady with wild berries meeting earthy
minerality. The same components surge on to the
palate, while brush-like tannins gather on the lengthy
finish. This is a true bargain not to
miss!

aromas of fresh herbs, currant and raspberry.
Full-bodied palate, with a very fine tannin structure
and a long, caressing finish. Very solid. Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2011.
