Special Offering - 2001 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Porto
October 14, 2003

Last Fall you made a very wise purchase of the 2000 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Porto. The bottle price was $69.95. This year I was able to purchase a limited amount of the 2001 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Porto at a "future/presale" price. I want to give you the opportunity to purchase this new release at a significance savings before I offer the wine to my client base. Yes, I had an opportunity to sample this elixir when I was offered the special pricing. The same high standard of quality are found in the 2001 as in previous vintages of this port.
To review -
Vesuvio makes some of the finest Vintage Porto in the Douro. Only Vintage Porto is produced at Quinta do Vesuvio. Only 6% of the estate's wine production will be bottled as Vintage Porto, representing about 1000 9L cases, of which only 300 cases will be available in the United States. The wine is still made using the traditional foot treading method (I Love Lucy!) in granite "lagares". Each lager is utilized by 50 treaders in order to maximize the extraction of color and flavor from the grapes. Very few Quintas in the Douro continue to produce all of their wines in this classic way. Yields are restricted to 2.6 pounds per vine. 3 principle Portuguese varietals compose the majority of the wine; Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. To refresh your memory if you have not had a young bottle recently - the finished wine is thick and rich, but also extremely smooth and lush...redolent of ripe blueberries and blackberries on the nose and palate....always a touch of dark chocolate and a sprinkle of cocoa powder....good grip on the long lingering finish! Of course, Quinta do Vesuvio has great aging potential and is a true collectible.
Anyway, I have 24 bottles to sell at $49.95 a bottle! Let me know ASAP.......after that it goes back up to $69.95. I will honor orders in the order received.
Thank you,
Eric Stumpf
