One of my east coast constituents tipped me off about the 08 Brancaia TRE's "on the QT" release. Last year the 07 Brancaia TRE was available only after it placed #10 in the Wine Spectator's Top 100 for 2009. I sold out of my small 4 case allocation of this $25 a bottle phenom within an hour after I mentioned it in my newsletter.

The rumors are true! After opening bottles of the 07 (WS 93 points) and 08 TRE for comparison, there is no question, the 08 TRE is EVEN BETTER! This is a richer blend of the same 80% Sangiovese, plus Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the three ("tre") Brancaia estates. In fact, the 08 TRE has a swagger that just might give the 07 an inferiority complex! Yes, the 08 TRE has been to the gym to bulk up with spicier aromatics, and an invigorating dark cherry elixir that has greater intensity, and a fuller, more sculpted body.....not to mention, enduring finish! All of this, but the 08 TRE is still with a nice "lean" 13.5% alcohol at drink time. A Tuscan super star has been born!

It is anyone's guess when the Wine Spectator will reveal its scorecard on the 08 TRE, but it won't matter if you purchase NOW while the getting is good! You are assured of 5-6 years of "lights out" drinking! The 08 TRE is a real KNOCKOUT!

Presently, 08 TRE is suppose to weigh in at $22.95 a bottle. So, for this round, how does $20.95 a bottle sound?
