Dear Wine Friend!,
I have many Priorat converts and aficionados out there, but also many who are curious and have not had the opportnity, or wanted to spend the big bucks to try to a great one! ....... So here is a very rare moment! I found one of of the "BIG GUYS" on a close out deal.....call it a sign of the times!
We first discovered and immensely enjoyed the 04 Mas Romani (now Mas Alta) "La Basseta" at the Irreductibles restaurant in Gratallops, owned by the winemaking superstars, and husband and wife of rival pioneering families, Rene Barbier Jr. (Clos Mogador) & Sarah Perez (Clos Martinet).
I just found 4 cases of the 06 Mas Alta "La Basseta" from the Priorat commune of Vilella Alta, a splendid vintage..... available at a ridiculously low "close out" price from the import-distributor.....I am prepared to pass along the deal price to you to "pick away" at 3 of the cases.......I am keeping the other to go with a case of the 04 we still maintain in our personal cellar. This is first come, first serve.......and no guarantees until this wine is delivered to the store.
The wine is always allocated and very limited. Price is listed at $95 a bottle.
"The 2006 La Basseta is 45% Carignane, 40% Grenache, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 15 months in 50% new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple, it has a sensational aromatic array of liquid minerals, wood smoke, underbrush, lavender, incense, black cherry, and blueberry that leapfrogs from the glass. Surprisingly elegant, it has that extra dimensionality that only old vines can produce. Complex, hedonistic, and exceptionally lengthy, this brilliant effort will evolve for several years and offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2026." - 96 POINTS - Wine Advocate, June 09 (Robert Parker - Jay Miller)
