Dear Wine Friend!,
Since Duckhorn's premiere release of the1994 Paraduxx, this unique proprietary red blend has become one of Napa Valley's most recognized, and coveted wines.....and not just by naturalists, ornithologists, and duck hunters!. Every vintage Paraduxx commissions an artist to create an original painting depicting a "pair of ducks" native to the Pacific Flyway. Each individual artist utilizes unique mediums to create their works, including watercolors, oil on linen, and acrylic wash. These original works are then transformed into duck stamp labels that adorn the special bottling. For this release, Colorado artist Jay Snellgrove created a pastel pencil illustration of a pair of Hooded Mergansers.
Paraduxx always utilizes a significant Napa Valley Zinfandel component in its blend, and this vintage is no exception: 72% Zinfandel, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged for 15 months in 60% French oak and 40% American oak (50% new/50% used - second vintage).
The 2007 Paraduxx shows a "dark, deep, vibrant red color....aromas of raspberry, cherry, cedar, spice, caramelized brown sugar, and sweet oak accented by a hint of white pepper Dark cherry and raspberry flavors mingle with rich, compelling layers of blueberry, cedar and molasses. Smooth entry followed by a full mid-palate with integrated nuances of fruit and oak leading to a long finish with balanced resolved tannins." - Winemaker David Marchesi
