Mantra gained a huge following at The Wine Consultant back in late 2003 with its very successful 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley. Over 2,300 bottles were sold in less than a month after I declared this wine "BEST CAB VALUE OF THE YEAR" ($17.75). Since then, Mantra has earned a stronger reputation for its excellent old vine Zinfandel, and prices have risen substantially. This may all change with the release of Mantra winemaker-owner Mike Kuimelis' new 2007 Mobius Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma.
The only problem with this lipsmacking Cabernet Sauvignon (5% Merlot and 5% Zinfandel) will be getting your hands on bottles, as the couple of hundred cases produced are destined for wine-by-the-glass programs at targeted fine dining restaurants. Only our track record with Mantra has given us a privvy position to make this brief offering of Mobius.

Let's not concern ourselves with the meaning behind the name Mobius, and how it might pertain to this wine, You can create a mobius strip (easy directions on the back label!) to trace your own path around the loopy band.....more fun after a few glasses! But who cares?
All you need to know is Mobius is way ahead of the curve and right on track for the money! Aromas churn out nicely ripened blackcherry-black plum scents sprinkled with nuances of licorice, cedar, and vanilla bean. The palate is round, lush and smooth with bends of dark berry flavors and a caressing touch of milk chocolate on the upside. The 07 Mobius is a "feel- good-gulpable" wine, like milk is with cookies!!
