'Le Prestige' is a big rich and elegant wine of outstanding quality, made from 90% Auxerrois (Malbec) and 10% Tannat. I had the opportunity to taste the 2005 vintage earlier in the year, and have been eagerly awaiting this release. The 2004 vintage was exceptional, but the 2005 vintage shows the same greatness already documented by the wines of neighboring Bordeaux.

A regular competition winner, 'Le Prestige' is the second level from entry of four standout Malbecs produced by Chateau du Cedre. It is easily the best bang for the dollar, and a serious wine.

The 2005 has a very floral anise and black fruit aroma profile. Intense, deep and brooding, this darkly saturated wine showcases concentrated black fruits with and chewy tannins that extend the long finish. However, the beauty of the 2005 Le Prestige is its ability to balance this powerful stucture with a surprisingly deft touch of unexpected refined texture. An amazing effort that will please now if paired with rich red meat roasts, but will dazzle with extended cellaring.
