The Argentiera estate is situated on the coast of Alta Maremma, about 100 km west of Florence in the DOC appellation of Bolgheri. The estate is part of the historic Tenuta di Donoratico dei Serristori, an influential Florentine family that in 1512 acquired this land from the de’Medici family.

This wine is made from carefully selected grapes grown in Argentiera’s best vineyards at altitudes of 150–200m above sea level. Each varietal is fermented separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 25–30 days, and then transferred to French oak barriques (Allier and Tronçais) where malolactic fermentation is completed. The wine spends 14 months in new French barriques and 12 months in bottle before release.

The 2004 Argentiera is sweet and layered in its dark cherries, toasted oak, earthiness and smoke. It offers notable balance, with ripe tannins that are beautifully woven into the wine’s medium-bodied yet generous frame. This blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc spent 14 months in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.

Tenuta Argentiera is a new property owned by Florentine entrepreneurs Corrado and Marcello Fratini along with Piero Antinori.
