Château d'Aussières is situated near Narbonne, in the Corbières in the microclimate of Fontfroide and Boutenac. Historically, since the Roman era, Château d’Aussières has been one of the great estates of the Languedoc.
In the Middle Ages, it belonged to its celebrated neighbor the Abbey of Fontfroide. With its exceptional location and terroir, Château d’Aussières is a wild and natural property of intense and powerful beauty.
Since purchasing in Chateau d' Aussieres in 1999, legendary producer Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) has restored and revitalized the vineyards, and modernized its winemaking facility and cellars. The vineyard is planted to carefully-selected traditional Languedoc wine grape varietals including Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache and Carignan....and now Cabernet Sauvignon.
The first release of 2008 Val de L'Ours Rouge is a brilliant blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Syrah. In California and Washington, this new trend to include Syrah as a component with Bordeaux varietals exists with the likes of Culler, Lewis, Leviathan, Chateau St. Michelle, Ancient Peaks and many more.
The 2008 Val de L'Ours is nuanced with aromas of spice, violets, anise and dark berries. On the palate, the bold Cabernet fruit is slightly garrigue tinged, and beautifully enhanced by the fleshy, peppery-spiced Syrah component. A mouthfilling wine, with a medium to full-bodied impression, the wine wins bonus points for its harmonious and lengthy finish. A real joy to drink for its pure fruit flavors, or even cellar for a few years, . What a bargain! The very high "Lafite" standards are obvious even in this "el cheapo"! YOU MUST TRY! You have nothing to lose!!
