Vina Casa Marin, owned by Maria Luz Marin is located in the San Antonio Valley and boast the closest location to the Pacific Ocean in all of South America, only two miles to the coast. It is a land that was dear to Chile's greatest poets, and which has now become a completely new viticulture region. The vineyard, with its steep hills of calcarous soils and cool microclimate, produces unique and exquiste wines.
The Estero Vineyard is located on a hillside slope overlooking the brook (“estero”) after which it is named. It has a southern exposure and very poor soil. Soil composition in the upper half of the hillside slope is mostly made up of clay, while the lower half, closer to the “estero,” is mostly made up of sand. The vines are lined up from North to South on a very steep hillside slope (approx. 30 to 32 degrees). This small, dark, pink skinned Sauvignon Gris grape is fermented in oak and aged on the lees to create an extraordinarily rich wine with a memorable finish. We love it for its fresh electrifying acidity, and laser like precision.
The 2008 Sauvignon Gris was partially barrel-fermented and remained in barrel for 6-7 months. The grape has smaller berries and thicker skin than Sauvignon Blanc and is the reason Marin chooses barrel fermentation for this variety. It has some green celery notes, a crisp palate presence, and high natural acidity. - 90 point, WA
Offers a lively lemon zest and grapefruit profile backed by a tangy, thyme-tinged finish. Vibrant and mouthwatering. Drink now. 500 cases made. - 89 points, WS
